The Process……

The importance of the process itself, in the creation of a living and relevant work of art is undeniable.

As an artist, my idea at the starting point is essential, but it becomes irrelevant without an ongoing dialog with the work during the process.

The finished work reflects a dialog with myself, my idea and the work in its own life in a sometimes, profound exchange. The work can lead me new ways and demand its conclusion in a place, where I simply must accept its ending and then later, in a new piece of work, go on from this new point of origin.

This does not mean that I, as an artist, am powerless, only that I am attentive.

The choice of technique and materials are inextricably connected to the idea.

My idea in the beginning is quite often complex, so that within the work, underlying stories often arises, demanding keen observation to notice and read. These stories will never appear in a photo of   the work. A photo will always be a mere superficial representation and is as such, objectionable.

It is never my objective to create a beautiful work of art, or a piece that appeals to an expectation of the audience´s acceptance.

Whether or not my work fits the current trends and perceptions of good art, is of absolutely no consequence to me.

My main concern is, for my work to have any meaning at all, it must touch the beholder.
It does not matter if it is with either aversion or delight.

The process is demanding and is often an undertaking of up to 18 months.

The developing process can take many shapes. Like working with a completely different genre than the work in progress, just to sharpen ones attention towards elements - colours - lighting etc. which later might develop into layers of the final artwork.

Therefore I have in my gallery a number of peculiarities - that are all little works in the process leading to the next work.

These works have not emerged as a lack of clarity towards, what my style and genre is, but as basis for developing and refining my actual style.

It is not the answer, but the question of tomorrow, that drives me.
